Prof. Dr. Antonia M. Joussen is the Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Charité University of Medicine, Berlin. She studied Medicine at the Universities of Bochum (Germany), Vienna (Austria) and Heidelberg (Germany), Moorfields Eye Hospital (London) and received her PhD from University of Heidelberg in 1996.
She did her residency in Ophthalmology at the universities of Heidelberg and Aachen (Germany) between 1996 and 2001 and went on to hold roles as Research Fellow at the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation at Harvard Medical School, an Instructor at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, Senior surgical staff member of the Center for Ophthalmology and Deputy head of the Department of Vitreoretinal Surgery, University of Cologne, before accepting the offer to be Professor of Ophthalmology at the Charité University Medicine in 2010.
