Dr Hamilton graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1995. She trained in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care in Ireland and Australia. Joined University Hospital Waterford in 2008 as Consultant, working in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care.
Dr Hamilton is an Honarary Senior Lecturer in the Royal College of Surgeons and Tutor in Anaesthesia for the College of Anaesthetists and is Honorary Secretary for the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine and Council member of the Intensive Care Society of Ireland.
She is the National Clinical Lead for Sepsis, leading the implementation & development programmes. She is a member of the National Sepsis Steering and Deteriorating patient committees and advised on the Pandemic and Ebola preparedness committees. She co-authored the National Clinical Guideline No.6: Sepsis Management and the National Sepsis Outcome Reports 2011-2015 and 2016. Dr Hamilton chairs the Quality Improvement Committee of the Global Sepsis Alliance.
