About Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen
Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen (born in 1967) studied medicine and science journalism in Berlin, London and Heidelberg. His specialty: conveying medical content in a humorous way. He gives lasting impulses that stick: on television, as a non-fiction author, at congresses or as a keynote speaker. For him, "planetary health" means giving top priority to protecting our life-support systems and a future fit for our grandchildren as a top priority. For this purpose he founded the Healthy Planet - Healthy People Foundation in 2020. The interdisciplinary team links science, politics, health care and civil society and communicates positively, humorously and and solution-oriented, better: constructively. The campaigns "What if" and "#dafür!" have reached millions of people. Hirschhausen has published numerous books and articles on climate and health protection, including "Mensch Erde! Wir könnten es so schön haben," "Jetzt oder nie: Sustainability in Health Care" and "Als ich mich auf dem Weg machte, die Erde zu retten." For ARD, he hosts the Saturday evening show "Was kann der Mensch?" (What can humans do?) and the information program "Wissen vor 8 - Erde" ("Knowledge before 8 - Earth"). He also makes documentaries on current topics, such as Corona or the future of medicine. He is a sought-after speaker and source of inspiration at congresses and conferences and has several teaching assignments. As an ambassador, patron and advisory board member, he is active on an honorary basis for the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research, the DFL Foundation, Depressionshilfe, Deutsche Krebshilfe and Phineo. With the school program against tobacco addiction "Be smart - Don't start" and as an ambassador for "Fit4Future," he brings healthy ideas to the education sector. Eckart von Hirschhausen is an honorary member of the faculty of the Charité, a member of the Sustainability Advisory Board of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and in the German society CLUB OF ROME e.V., Honorary Professor at the University of Marburg, "Friend of Nursing" of the German Nursing Council and Ambassador for Global Health of the Agenda 2030. He received, among others, the "Medienpreis der Umwelthilfe" the "Georg von Holtzbrinck Preis für Wissenschaftsjournalismus“," and the "Science Communication Prize 2023" from the Leopoldina for a sustainable future. He lives in Berlin, is married, evangelical and does not give up hope for positive change.
