Gülsah Gabriel is head of the department Viral Zoonoses - One Health at the Heinrich Pette Institute, Leibniz Institute for Experimental Virology in Hamburg and at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover. Her research focus is to understand how avian influenza viruses cross species barriers and transmit from birds to humans. She has received many prestigious awards for her research that aims to improve current surveillance efforts regarding the pandemic potential of newly emerging influenza viruses. Gülsah Gabriel is Vice-president of the European Scientific Working Group on Influenza (ESWI) closely collaborating with ECDC and WHO to transfer research findings with clinical relevance to the respective stakeholders.
