Karl Lauterbach was appointed Federal Minister of Health of Germany in December 2021. He studied medicine in Aachen, Düsseldorf and San Antonio (Texas). He holds a PhD in Medicine, a Master of Public Health (Harvard), a Master of Science in Health Policy and Management (Harvard) and a Doctor of Science in Health Policy and Management (Harvard). His parliamentary career began in 2005 when he became a Member of the German Bundestag. From 2013 to 2019 he served as deputy parliamentary party leader of the SPD.
