Abebe Genetu Bayih is the Acting Lead for Local Manufacturing of Health Commodities in Africa CDC. He is based at Africa CDC Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Prior to his role in Africa CDC, he was the Africa Engagement Lead at Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). Abebe was also the Director General of the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI), Ethiopia for three years. AHRI is the biomedical and clinical research agency of the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. In addition, Abebe was Associate Professor of Medical Parasitology at the University of Gondar, Ethiopia. He did his PhD on Molecular Microbiology at the University of Calgary, Canada. His PhD focused on leishmaniasis vaccine discovery. He also did postdoctoral research on antimalarial drug discovery. Abebe is also a fellow of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Global Health Leadership Programme.
