About Rutendo Kuwana

Rutendo Kuwana is the Team Lead for the Market Surveillance and Control (MSC) team at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, a role he has held since June 2021. He has over 30 years of professional experience, including more than 16 years with WHO, and a deep background in pharmacy and medical product regulation, with a special focus on quality assurance. In his current role, Rutendo leads global strategies for preventing, detecting, and responding to substandard and falsified medical products with emphasis on strengthening regulatory oversight through adoption of appropriate technologies, enhancing competency, fostering transparency, improving market monitoring and sharing information across borders. Rutendo is a passionate advocate for reliable access to safe, effective and affordable medicines, especially in resource-limited settings.
