Prof. Siegmund, born 1971, studied human medicine in Munich and Harvard. From 2003 to 2007, she headed an Emmy Noether junior research group of the DFG at the Charité, after which she worked as a senior physician until 2012. In 2012, the gastroenterologist was initially appointed Heisenberg Professor and only one year later was appointed to her current position. Since 2016, she has also been Medical Director of the CharitéCentrum 13 for Internal Medicine with Gastroenterology and Nephrology. For three years, she was the spokesperson of a Collaborative Research Centre, and since 2018 she has been co-spokesperson of an SFB/Transregio. She is also a member of the supervisory board of the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH), where she has headed the Clinical Translational Science Platform (CTP) since 2019. From 2016 to 2017, Siegmund was a member of the DFG Review Board of Medicine, a member of the German Senate since 2017, and was chairman or board member of various German gastroenterological societies. The physician is a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
