She has over 30 years’ experience of research focused on public health, health systems and capacity strengthening in low- and middle-income countries, particularly Africa. She has pioneered research on rigorous and innovative approaches to improving the effectiveness of capacity strengthening in complex, multi-disciplinary programmes and established the Centre for Capacity Research at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. The Centre is a global leader in generating evidence concerning the design and evaluation of capacity strengthening initiatives and works in partnership with research funders and implementers. She has extensive expertise in managing multi-disciplinary projects and people to achieve excellent outputs of the highest international standard. Many of her outputs have resulted in changes in policy and practice and focus on transferable, evidence-based recommendations for actions to catalyse effective and sustainable multi-disciplinary research.
