Dr. Sara Tomczyk is with the Robert Koch Institute’s Unit on Healthcare-associated Infections (HAIs), Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Consumption (AMC) in Berlin, Germany. She leads the unit’s international team including their work as a WHO Collaborating Centre for AMR, AMC and HAIs. Prior to this, she worked as a clinical epidemiologist and infection preventionist on a range of infection prevention and control (IPC) and AMR-related research and outbreak response teams internationally, including several years with the WHO IPC Global Hub. Her research interests include the improvement of AMR and HAI surveillance approaches and evaluation of IPC and stewardship interventions to inform health service delivery. She completed the CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service and Preventive Medicine Residency, has a Masters in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a doctorate from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva.
