Dr Michael Moore AM PhD is currently Chair of the World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA) International Taskforce on Immunization as well as a number of other of health networks. is a Past President of the WFPHA and in 2018 retired as CEO of the Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA). He was Rotary International District 9705 Governor for 2020-21, for a district the size of England covering the ACT and most of southern NSW. He has been on a range of scientific committees for national and international health conferences and has chaired a number of academic and health networks. He is currently the Chair of the Advisory Board of the National Drug Research Institute at Curtin University. Michael was an Independent member of the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly for four terms from 1989 to 2001. He was Australia’s first independent Minister when he was appointed as Minister of Health and Community Care. In 2017 he was honoured by being made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). Michael is a former teacher, small business owner and consultant who holds a post-graduate diploma in education, a master’s degree in population health from the ANU, and a PhD from the University of Canberra examining effective public health advocacy. He is a Distinguished Fellow at The George Institute for Global Health and an Adjunct Professor with the University of Canberra and is a Visiting Professor at the University of Technology Sydney. Michael was the Public Health Association of Australia’s Sidney Sax Medallist in 2018 and was made a Life Member in 2019. He is widely published, including over fifty ‘peer review’ publications. He is also a political and social columnist who has served on a range of academic and community Boards.
