About Dr. Diarmuid Murphy
Dr Diarmuid Murphy graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed his basic Surgical Training and Advanced Surgical Training in Orthopaedic Surgery in Ireland. During his training, he represented Irish Higher Surgical Trainees at a National level and was the Irish Orthopaedic representative on the Federation of Orthopaedic Trainees in Europe. He completed his fellowship training in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery and joined the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore in 2010. His specialist areas of interest is orthopaedic trauma, in particular, the treatment of complex intra-articular fractures, treating fractures using minimally invasive surgical techniques as well as the management of ortho-geriatric patients. Dr Murphy has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and is a clinical tutor at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. In addition to his clinical and research work, he is the Deputy Head of the Musculoskeletal Trauma Division and the Director of Clinical Services for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, NUH. Dr Murphy has been involved in Value Driven Care since the concepts were introduced to Singapore by the National University Hospital leadership. The Ministry of Health has since adopted a number of these projects on a national basis. Dr Murphy was appointed Chief Value Officer for NUH in 2018. He heads up a dedicated team that oversees the collection of data on the quality and cost of care for specific medical and surgical conditions. This information is then used to drive change through targeted quality improvement projects.
