Charles Ibingira is Professor at the Principal Makerere University college of health sciences, the leading medical college in the East African region and a graduate of University of Cape Town, Republic of South Africa, and Makerere university.
He is a fellow of the college of surgeons of Eastern and Central Africa, and an active general surgeon.
Has had many trainings attended, and presented in many local and international scientific conferences. He has wide leadership experience in Medical Education, has promoted and strengthened research and collaborations between Makerere College of health sciences and many medical colleges, hospitals, research institutions and funding organisations locally and internationally, that has facilitated extensive student and faculty exchange that has in turn catalyzed Global heath training at Makerere.
He is formerly an associate Dean of the faculty of Medicine up to 2009, Dean Makerere UniversitySchool of Biomedical Sciencesup to 2015. An Assoc. Professor Department of Human Anatomy and a faculty member of the College since 1996. He is the founder Faculty for a number of academic Programs, including the Biomedical engineering, master of science in immunology, master of health sciences in Bioethics at Makerere University, before that he was the associate Dean faculty of Medicine Makerere University. He has risen through the academic ranks of lecturer, senior lecturer to Associate Professor, and coordinated the biggest PhD program funded by Sida, that graduated over 60 PhDs in the college of health sciences. He has been involved in the development and revision of several other curricular for academic programs and has evaluated a number of academic programs both undergraduate and graduate for other Universities in East Africa on behalf of the National Council for higher Education of Uganda. He has supervised and mentored several masters and other graduate students, chaired several Phd defenses, and participated in many policy formulations locally at Makerere University. He is a senior researcher. He was appointed Principal of Makerere University college of health sciences in 2015 a position he has held till now. In addition, he sits on various training advisory and steering committees of big projects. He is a PI, on several research projects in the college of health sciences. Has developed a lot of interest in medical education, especially, equity, quality and the global component up to graduate programs.
He has substantial publications in peer reviewed journals in anatomy, surgery, bioethics, medical education, public health and basic science research.
