André Nietlisbach, Master of Science ETH in Agricultural Sciences, has been Secretary General of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Canton of Bern since 2006. In addition to his core function he is Executive Head of the Task Force Medicine Bern, Member of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Institute for Translational and Entrepreneurial Medicine (sitem-insel Ltd.) and Representative of the Canton of Bern in the Swiss Capital Region, which encloses 5 Cantons (States) with the mission to strengthen and coordinate Public Health Policy. From 1998 to 2006 he was Head of the Division of Political Planning and Controlling for the Swiss Government (Federal Council), Delegate of Switzerland in the Public Governance Committee of the OECD, Member of the important Interdepartmental Working Parties of the Federal Administration and Member of the Federal Commission of Statistics(elected by the Federal Council). From 1990 to 1997 he worked in the Private Sector (Metron Ltd.)as Head of projects in urban planning, hospital planning, environmental and economic studies, evaluations of infrastructure investments and the implementation of political instruments.
