Dr Shymaa Enany is an associate professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Suez Canal University, Egypt. She received her PhD from School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Niigata University, Japan. Her postdocs were in USA and Japan. She was the first Arab scientist applying bacterial proteomic technique for bacterial proteins analysis, which in turn help in revealing good markers and antigens for bacteria spreading in community. She published many articles in reputable and prestigious international journals as Nature and Lancet Infectious Diseases.
During COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Shymaa was chosen as a member in COVID-19 diagnostics group in Africa. She has a prominent role as one of scientific team working on diagnostics of COVID-19 in Next Einstein Forum. She also participated in Global Health COVID -19 diagnostics implementation working group in Mass General Brigham Centre for COVID Innovation. Owing to her substantial valuable inputs, she was designated as a co-chair of COVID-19 Clinical Research Coalition
(Immunology, Virology and Diagnostics Working Group). She received the world academy of sciences (TWAS) young Arab scientist prize for her scientific achievements in medical sciences in 2018. Due to her scientific merit, she was selected as a member of Egyptian young academy, a TWAS young affiliate, an arbiter in international exhibition of innovation, one of scientific committee of world forum for women in science, and a selected young leader in both science and
technology in society (STS) in Japan and world science forum (WSF) in Hungary. She is a member of microbiology national committee in Egypt providing advice for government in topics related to infection and antibiotic misusing and working for achieving sustainable development goals. Latterly, she was appointed as an Egyptian ambassador in next Einstein forum (NEF), which showcase the global contribution and potential of scientists from Africa that enabling Africa to get onto global scientific stage.
