Stefan Ehlers, M.D., is a medical microbiologist and infectious disease specialist by training. He held positions at the Dartmouth Medical School, Hanover (NH, USA), the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor (MI, USA) and the Free University of Berlin before he was appointed Head of Division of Molecular Infection Biology at the Research Center Borstel, Germany, in 1996. He is a founding member of the Cluster of Excellence in Inflammation Medicine at the University of Kiel where he was appointed Full professor for Molecular Inflammation Medicine and co-director of the Institute for Experimental Medicine in 2007. He was head of the Thematic Translational Unit Tuberculosis in the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF) before he was appointed Chief Executive Officer at the Leibniz Lung Center in Borstel in 2012. Stefan Ehlers has extensive interdisciplinary experience in infection research, strategic partnerships, and in science administration.
