Tana Wuliji (PhD BPharm) is a senior health workforce specialist, policy advisor and researcher. As a Technical Officer in the Health Workforce Department at the World Health Organization, she is responsible for coordinating Working for Health – a five year ILO, OECD, WHO action plan for health employment and inclusive economic growth to expand and transform the health and social workforce.
She has advised on health workforce planning, supported workforce strategy implementation and led research on health workforce education, training, regulation, performance and productivity in 15 countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. As the WHO focal point on health workforce for Ebola-affected countries in 2015, she supported health workforce analysis to prevent health worker infections and the development of health systems investment plans to rebuild a robust workforce. Between 2010 – 2014, Tana directed the Health Workforce Development unit in a USAID program to improve the quality of care and strengthen health systems in 32 low and middle- income countries. Between 2005 - 2009, Tana established a new portfolio on pharmacy workforce and education at the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). She received her PhD from the University College London and a BPharm from the University of Otago.
