Prof. David Wong is an ophthalmologist with special interest in retinal diseases. Since coming to Hong Kong, he has made significant inroads into tackling the three main causes of poor vision territory‐wide namely long waiting time for cataracts, lack of systematic diabetic retinopathy screening and no universal access to anti‐VEGF therapy for retinal diseases. His research interest is bioengineering and the most important breakthrough include the introduction of new silicone oils that are more resistant to emulsification yet easier to inject and remove, heavy silicone oil, new low molecular silicone oils as a per‐operative tool and new surgical strategies for avoiding emulsification and new rinses for removing the droplets.
