Dr Emmanuel Agogo is a global health systems expert with a background in family medicine and infectious diseases in Africa and the United Kingdom. He is currently a Senior Technical Advisor and Deputy Director for Prevention & Programme Coordination at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. He currently a recipient of the Emerging Leaders in Biosecurity (ELBI) Fellowship of the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security.
Emmanuel has been part of the team establishing the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, where he has led initiatives for collaborative One Health approaches for health security, provided project management for the establishment of laboratory diagnostic infrastructure for TB, HIV & emerging diseases at the national reference laboratory and strategic planning focused on improving health security in Nigeria. He has been coordinating activities of the Human Health Sector for the World Bank funded Regional Disease Surveillance System Enhancement (REDISSE) Project and the Laboratory Component of the Global Fund Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health (RSSH) Grant for Nigeria.
Dr Agogo earned his medical degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria; an honors degree in Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (2004); a Master’s degree in Primary and Community Health from the University of Birmingham (2017) and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners in (2016).
He has undertaken consultancies and provided expert advice to the World Bank, World Health Organization, Chatham House, West African Health Organization and the African Union on Health Systems Strengthening, HIV treatment response, pandemic/emergency preparedness & response and strategic planning. He has been a subject matter expert for the Joint External Evaluation of International Health Regulations in several countries.
