Verónica Espinosa Serrano has an academic and professional career that has been guided by her interest and commitment to public health. She studied medicine at the “Universidad Internacional” of Ecuador where she obtained a full scholarship for academic merits. She completed her rotating internship at the “Carlos Andrade Marín Hospital” of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute. She was a student in the Erasmus Mundus Program at the La Pitié Salpetriere University in Paris – France.
She has a Master's Degree in Public Health from the “Universidad San Francisco de Quito” of Ecuador and a Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights from the ISalud University of Argentina.
In her professional life she has worked in Ecuador as director of the Sub-center of Health in Puembo, coordinator in charge of the Area of Health No. 14 Yaruquí, medical director in Laboratories LIFE C.A., advisor in the Ministry of Public Health; National Undersecretary of Public Health Governance; and Deputy Minister of Governance and Health Surveillance. Since January 2017, she has been the Minister of Public Health of Ecuador.
Within her functions in the public health sector she has been delegated as a representative of the Ministry of Public Health in the Board of Directors of SOLCA, President of the National Council for Fixing and Reviewing Prices of Medicines for Human Use and Consumption and delegate of the Ministry of Health before the Directory of the Ecuadorian Institute of Intellectual Property.
