Professor Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora is Professor of Epidemiology and the Director of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She obtained her medical degree and masters in epidemiology in Bangladesh. Later she completed her PhD in epidemiology and biostatistics from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. In her long public health career she worked for CARE international, unicef, Bangladesh Medical Research Council and ministry of health. She has been in teaching profession for more than twenty years. She did two years fellowship in medical education in Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER), USA. In addition to regular teaching she supervised more than 100 theses work of Masters and PhD students. Besides, she has been conducting researches especially in the field of public health education, health system research, tuberculosis, non-communicable diseases, behavioural risk factors including tobacco, and mental health. For over three years she has been working as Research Administrator. In her current position she is leading different surveillance program, emergency response, research, field epidemiology training program etc. as her institute under the ministry of health is mandated for surveillance and outbreak investigation and response. She is the director of National Influenza Centre and also Project Director of Strengthening public health actions for emerging infectious events in Bangladesh assigned by the government. She is the focal point of Global Health Security Agenda, Chair of One Health Secretariat, emergency focal point for International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN). She has been contributing in many different Institutional Review Boards as Chair, Co-Chair and Member Secretary and Scientific Journal as Advisor, Chair, Member of the Editorial Board. She has quite a good number of publications in national and international peer reviewed journals. Her institute has strong collaboration with different UN organizations, CDC USA and different universities. She is the member of the WHO South East Asia Regional task force for Antimicrobial Resistance. Prof Flora is the Vice President of the International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI). In her personal life she is a wife of Engineer Entrepreneur and mother of two daughters.
