Dr Marleen Hendriks is the Medical Director of PharmAccess Foundation, an organization dedicated to connecting more people to better healthcare in Africa, with a focus on mobile technology. She is also the Director of Innovation at partner organization the Joep Lange Institute. Prior to this position she worked as a PhD- and post-doc researcher at the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development on innovative service delivery models for chronic care in sub Saharan Africa, in particular NCD prevention care. She trained as a medical doctor at the University of Maastricht and the University of Amsterdam. She initially worked in clinical care, as a resident in Neurology but after some years in clinical care she switched to Global Health. She completed her Public Health Residency at the Academic Medical Center, with a focus on Health Economics and Healthcare Management & Policy. Building on the mobile revolution in Africa, her current focus is on the development of sustainable financing and delivery models for NCD prevention care through mobile solutions and other technologies. As a connector between clinicians, scientists and tech developers, she aims to use technology to facilitate the shift from episodic disease management to continuous health management for people worldwide
