Associate Professor Aymeric Lim has served as the Chairman, Medical Board (CMB) of the National University Hospital (NUH) since 2008. As CMB, he oversees the professional leadership in NUH, and governs the practice of patient care, thereby ensuring an optimal standard of medical service within the institution.
A hand surgeon, Associate Professor Lim completed his medical training at the National University of Singapore in 1990. He obtained his FRCS (Glasgow) in General Surgery in 1995 and went on to complete his advanced Fellowship training in Hand surgery in France (Bordeaux and Nancy) in 2000.
He has served in various capacities at both institutional and national levels. He was the Chief of the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery from 2004 to 2008, the past President of The Singapore Society for Hand Surgery from 2007 to 2008, and past Chairman of the Specialist Training Committee, (MOH)
He is the Dean of the Healthcare Leadership College, a division of MOH Holdings, which serves Singapore’s Ministry of Health and its public healthcare institutions in the areas of leadership development, organizational development, policy perspectives, health system design and innovation. He is also serves as the Commanding Officer of a Combat Surgical Hospital in the Singapore Armed Forces. As a veteran of humanitarian projects, he has led missions to places like Taiwan, Afghanistan and Bandar Aceh in Indonesia.
Associate Professor Lim's areas of expertise and research interests include flaps, nerve and brachial plexus surgery as well as tendon transfers. His research on the intra-muscular innervation of the muscles of the forearm has led to new clinical work in the field of tendon transfers, where a single muscle unit was split and used for two separate tendon transfers. Such techniques are especially useful for patients with severe crush or nerve injuries to the forearm. In addition, Associate Professor Lim has authored numerous research papers in international journals, and co-edited a book titled 'Elective Hand Surgery'. He is invited regularly to speak at numerous local and international conferences.
Associate Professor Lim is a strong proponent of patient safety and has established the hospital Patient Safety Strategy which aims to eliminate harm and achieve zero preventable errors, along with integrating and optimizing patient experience to provide safe and clinically effective care.
