Dr Virgil K. Lokossou has served as a development professional in different capacities over the last 20 years, working with government agencies, community-based organizations, international non-governmental organizations, and inter-governmental organization in Africa. He has played pioneering leadership roles in the development, implementation and evaluation of public health systems strengthening initiatives in West Africa with a particular focus on public health surveillance and emergency response, One-Health workforce capacity and platforms development, infectious disease control and program monitoring & evaluation. He is currently heading the ECOWAS Regional Center for Surveillance and Disease Control, and has the responsibility of strengthening public health emergency response and supporting National Public Health Institutions and Ministries of Health across West Africa.
