Johannes Schildknecht is a Program Manager for Malteser International, responsible for the coordination of its humanitarian Emergency Program Africa as well as for the NGO’s programs in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
He seeks to comprehensively connect participative humanitarian and development projects to serve communities in crisis while strengthening them and local systems in order to support them in finding their way into a more stable future. One of those projects in the DRC will be awarded the Else Kröner Fresenius Award for Development Cooperation in Medicine 2021 on the topic of “Epidemic Preparedness and Response”.
His academic background encompasses international and human rights law as well as Project Management and Development Studies. In addition, Mr Schildknecht is a certified practician of the ‘People First Impact Method’ (P-FIM), a highly participative method for community engagement that serves both as a tool for assessments and as a method for project implementation. Based both in Cologne, Germany, and Ariwara (Ituri Province), DRC, he has extensive experience in participative project conceptualization and implementation for both sectoral health activities and multisectoral projects that support local communities and structures for, among others, epidemic prevention, preparedness and response. He takes pride in assuring that community interests and local technical expertise are leading the development of project proposals.
