Jean-Marie Dangou has an international reputation for his work in Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and, in Health Diplomacy, leadership and cooperation, the management of WHO country offices. He successively served as Regional Advisor for Cancer Prevention and Control at the WHO Regional Office for Africa, and as Coordinator of the NCD Prevention programme area. Currently he is the Coordinator of the NCD Management programme and he is fully involved in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jean-Marie worked as WHO Representative in Zambia, Guinea and The Gambia where he coordinated WHO teams for planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies, strategies and health policies and plans. He was also in charge of diplomatic representation, strategic direction and the establishment of partnerships.
Before joining WHO, Professor Dangou held various positions on the academia and the Ministry of health of Senegal. Jean-Marie was the National Cancer Control Programme coordinator at the Ministry of Health of Senegal. For more than 10 years, Professor Dangou was the Head of the Pathology department at Grand-Yoff General Teaching Hospital in Dakar (Senegal) and at the Dakar Pasteur Institute. Jean-Marie teached Health Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine of C. Anta Diop University of Dakar, and he participated in research activities. He is member for several medical societies and has membership of editorial board for medical journals. He has been Vice-President for Africa at the International Academy of Pathology (IAP) and President of the African French Speaking Division of the IAP. He published more than 95 scientific articles and for more than 80% of them in peer-reviewed journals.
Jean-Marie is a Medical Doctor, specialized in Histopathology, Cytology and Cytogenetic and, in Epidemiology. He successfully passed the CAMES assessment and is a Professor. Professor Dangou was trained at University C. Anta Diop of Dakar (Senegal); Free University of Brussels (Belgium) and, University of Bordeaux II (France). Jean-Marie undertook professional training and continuing education in different domains such as Pedagogy including e-learning, Research methodology, Communications, Global Health Diplomacy, Leadership and Management among others.
