Tamas Andras Koncz, MD, MSc, PhD is Vice President of Medical Affairs for Pfizer Emerging Markets’ Accord for a Healthier World initiative and Global Commercial Access Partnerships (GCAP). In this role he leads the medical and clinical program for Pfizer’s Accord for a Healthier World, a bold global health equity initiative aimed at increasing and accelerating access to Pfizer’s portfolio of medicines and vaccines on a not-for-profit basis to 1.2 billion people in 45 lower-income countries. In this role, he and his team take a holistic approach to understanding and addressing the medical needs of this population from the evaluation of health care gaps, disease epidemiology, patient journeys and more to the implementation of solutions that enable access to Pfizer’s portfolio and help strengthen healthcare capabilities. Tamas also works closely with health care providers, medical societies, governments, regulatory agencies, academia and research institutions and global health organizations to help maximize patient impact.
Over the course of his more than 20-year career, Tamas has held various leadership positions at Pfizer, including Chief Medical Officer for the Inflammation and Immunology business, Chief Medical Affairs Officer for International Developed Markets (Canada, Europe, Japan/Korea/Australia) as well as European regional, UK and US country roles in Medical Affairs and Health Economics.
Tamas is the EMEA Regional President and Board Director for the Medical Affairs Professional Society (MAPS). He has published extensively on randomized controlled Phase 2 and Phase 3 clinical trials, health economics and in the area of patient medication non-adherence. He is also the author of the chapter titled “Medical Affairs Collaborations Across the Drug/Device Development Lifecycle” in the first-ever medical affairs textbook.
Tamas is a Medical Doctor and Economist by primary training. He holds a MSc in Health Economics from the University of York, an MSc in Pharmaceutical Medicine from the University of Surrey and a PhD from Semmelweis Medical School, Budapest, Hungary. He is based in New York, NY and Madrid, Spain.
