About Emmanuella Selasi Hormenoo

Hormenoo Emmanuella Selasi is a Diabetes and Adolescent Health Advocate and a peer mentor with 4 years of lived experience who is vocal about the challenges individuals living with diabetes experience, especially in Ghana. Selasi currently is a Voice for PEN-Plus and serves as the General Secretary of Diabetes Youth Care, an NGO in Ghana which serves to bridge the gap between children, adolescents and adults living with diabetes and medical personnel. Having experienced the negatives of stereotypes and myths surrounding diabetes right from the onset of her diagnosis, Selasi engages in awareness campaigns and is a firm believer in the good of peer and communal support to enhance the lives of persons living with diabetes. Selasi’s advocacy has led her to speak on multiple international platforms; she has been invited to and participated in the “Unlocking Access to Insulin: Advancing Public-Private Partnerships for Equitable Diabetes Care” event at the World Health Assembly (WHA 25), “Integrating the response to NCDs and Mental Health” conference held in Kigali, Rwanda, the “WHO Africa Experts meeting to assess, review & finalise tools for the development of the Diabetes Blueprint for the Africa Region” held in Congo Brazzaville, among others. She has also been invited to speak through several virtual platforms with the goal of highlighting the struggles of persons living with disabilities, and more importantly the steps to take towards alleviating the plights of such persons. Eager to learn and to share her experiences whenever called upon, Selasi is invested in pursuing knowledge that she believes can positively impact lives of diabetics physically, socially and mentally.
