Jochen Bitzer, MD has been Referent for Medical Development Cooperation at Else Kröner-Fresenius- foundation since March 2020. He is responsible for content-related supervision and coordination of medical projects and the cooperation with non-state and state actors. In his area of work, he organises special tenders such as the Else Kröner Tandem Professorships "Global Child Health“. Before joining EKFS, Dr. Bitzer worked as Senior Health Expert based at Germany and supervised medical health projects. However, he also lived and worked more than twelve years in resource poor countries. He has worked in project management both in the headquarters of organisations and in the field. Key aspects have been technical advice to health projects, monitoring and evaluation, training and supervision, and technical implementation of projects at all levels of health systems. His thematic focus was on basic health projects to combat infectious diseases and mother-child health projects. He has work experience in both governmental and non-governmental development projects. At the start of his career, he worked as a general practitioner in rural settings. In Germany, he worked in paediatrics. He is an MD from the University of Tuebingen, Germany and with a Master's degree in International Health.
