About the session

As the global burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) continues to rise, conventional models of health financing are proving insufficient, if not inadequate. With evolving economic constraints, shifting geopolitical dynamics, and unprecedented conjunctions of global challenges, we urgently need to rethink investments in health and how this translates into funding for comprehensive and integrated NCD prevention and care. The foundation for building healthier societies begins with advocating for increased, sustained, and early investment in health by governments. This is a prerequisite for defining effective interventions that deliver the best health outcomes for an alarming and overwhelming number of NCD patients while ensuring positive economic impact.

This session will take stock of the UN Declaration on NCDs made at the UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs (HLM4) just weeks before, reflecting on the renewed political commitments and identifying opportunities and gaps in financing strategies proposed to support global NCD targets and drive effective implementation.

The discussion will explore existing funding mechanisms, assessing their strengths, limitations, and adaptability to the rapidly changing global context. It will also investigate the need for solutions tailored to NCDs as best practices. It will focus on harnessing concrete, actionable financing solutions—from public-private partnerships to impact investment and blended finance—to address the NCD crisis, while also critically exploring the need for transformative shifts in financing strategies to ensure long-term sustainability, economic return and broader impact for patients.
