About the session
Amid profound transformation of the global health ecosystem - with increasing geopolitical fragmentation, weakened multilateral health fora, and widening gaps in global health financing and preparedness - expectations are rising for the European Union (EU) to assume a stronger and more strategic leadership role in global health.
The EU and its Member States have significant technical expertise and experience in advancing health resilience at the national, regional and global level. In times of geopolitical turmoil, the EU continues to be a strong partner in global health and brings a commitment to multilateralism to the table. It draws on robust public health care models, substantial research and innovation capacities, and successful European initiatives that directly contribute to ad-dressing global health challenges.
Yet, unlocking the full potential of these strengths requires a shared vision of the priorities and strategic goals for the global health agenda of the future, underpinned by a strong political commitment to place global health high on the EU agenda. It also needs a shared conviction that the EU’s engagement in global health has an added value, both for the EU and its part-ners.
This session will examine how the EU contributes to a resilient global health system through its outstanding health expertise. It will explore the EU´s value proposition to global health: what is the status quo and vision for the EU´s role in global health amidst the ongoing global health architecture reform discussion?
