Cities are at the frontline of global health. Around the world, urban leaders are rethinking how to prevent disease, reduce pollution, and close health gaps. With urban populations expected to reach 70% of the world’s total by 2050, strengthening urban health is essential for achieving global health equity.
The International Urban Health Summit (IUHS) 2025, co-hosted by the WHS Academic Alliance Member IAP, earlier this year brought together over 200 experts from more than 30 countries to explore how to place health at the center of city policy. Key priorities highlighted included strong local health governance, prevention across sectors, community engagement, and nature-based urban design to support mental and physical wellbeing.
