Health: A Political Choice. The Future of Health in a Fractured World

Health: A Political Choice – The Future of Health in a Fractured World has been released digitally ahead of its presentation at the World Health Summit 2025 in Berlin.

The publication brings together perspectives from the World Health Organization, the United Nations, governments, the scientific community, and civil society. It explores how resilience, equity, and trust can be strengthened at a time when global power structures are shifting and trust in science is eroding. In this context, multilateral cooperation and shared values face growing strain—developments that risk slowing progress on urgent global health challenges.

In his contribution, Axel R. Pries, President of the World Health Summit, reflects on the erosion of trust in science and policymaking and argues for rebuilding consensus through stronger evidence-based communication, the protection of academic freedom, and collective responsibility. His chapter emphasizes that science can play a unifying role – provided its integrity, openness, and societal relevance are safeguarded.

The initiative is led by The Global Governance Project, with editorial direction by Ilona Kickbusch, John Kirton, Madeline Koch, and GT Media.
