Congratulations to the new Dean of BU School of Public Health, Adnan Hyder!

We warmly congratulate Dr. Adnan Hyder on his appointment as Dean of Boston University School of Public Health. As a longstanding member of the WHS Academic Alliance community and a powerful advocate for equity, evidence, and collaboration in global health, we are excited to follow this new chapter in his career. To mark the occasion, we asked him three short questions:

1. What are your key goals as the new Dean of Boston University School of Public Health?

“My key goals are to elevate our school’s academic leadership, grow research and innovation, and focus on student success. I want us to continue leading with purpose, passion, and principles; and continue to be one of the best schools for public health in the world.”

2. From your perspective, what are the most urgent challenges in global health today?

“There is a clear and present need to address inequities in health and healthcare access, the impact of climate change, and the threats to science and evidence. I believe in the power of collective action to meet these challenges and promote global solidarity in public health.”

3. How do you view the role of international networks like the WHS Academic Alliance in advancing global health?

“I believe networks like the WHS Academic Alliance are critical - especially at this time, when we need to ensure that the role of science and evidence is maintained in health policy and decisions. Global collaborations are key to helping support all. It is a ‘win-win’ formula, where institutions and colleagues share issues, solutions, and skills that can help solve some of the major global and national health problems.”

Thank you very much, Adnan! We wish you all the best in your new role and every success. We look forward to staying connected and continuing to work together to advance global health.
