Axel R. Pries
Axel R. Pries has served as President of the World Health Summit, the leading platform for global health, since January 2021. A physician and physiologist by training, he was Director of the Institute of Physiology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin from 2001 to 2015, where he made significant contributions to cardiovascular and microcirculation research. From 2015 to 2022, he served as Dean and member of the Executive Board of the Charité. In this role, he advanced the interaction with the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH), which he led as CEO from 2018 to 2020, and initiated the establishment of the Charité Center for Global Health. He also served as President of the Biomedical Alliance in Europe in 2018 and 2019, and since 2023 he is Prorector of the Danube Private University in Krems, Austria.
