The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies was created from the merger of two institutes, the Graduate Institute of International Studies, established in 1927, and the Graduate Institute of Development Studies, established in 1961. It is an institution of research and higher education dedicated to the study of world affairs, with a particular emphasis on the overarching fields of international relations and development issues. The Institute has around 850 students from more than 100 countries and more than 500 employees, of which 220 are employed for research. It is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
