The European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) is a public-private partnership between twenty eight countries in Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa. The aim of the partnership is to support research that accelerates the development of new and improved drugs, vaccines, microbicides and diagnostics against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Malaria and other poverty related diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. The second program is currently implemented under the European Framework Program for Research and Innovation, ‘Horizon 2020’. The EDCTP supports clinical trials and implementation research, and provides three grants based upon the Horizon 2020 action plan. Research and Innovation, Coordination and Support and Training and Mobility Actions focus upon clinical research, awareness raising, networking and fostering career development of researchers. Current projects address ethics and regulatory capacities, increasing access to large scale clinical trials, combating mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS and ensuring malaria vaccines.
