The Presidency of the Council of the European Union rotates among the 27 EU Member States every six months. Its important task is to drive Council discussions on EU legislation forward. The Presidency also ensures cooperation among all Member States as an honest and neutral broker. In the second half of 2020, Germany assumes the Presidency of the Council of the EU for the 13th time. The Presidency starts under altered conditions: the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on health, as well as its economic and social consequences throughout Europe, are the focus of attention.
