Founded in 1957, the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) is an internationally renowned cultural institution. It includes museums, libraries, archives, and research institutes. The Foundation preserves, cultivates, and adds to its extensive collections which document the evolution of human culture from its beginnings to the present in Europe and on other continents. Moreover, all its institutions conduct independent research. With around 2,000 employees, the Foundation is the largest employer in the cultural field in Germany. It reports directly to the German government and is shaped by Germany's federal structure. The federal government and all 16 states of Germany support and finance it jointly. The seat of the Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz and all its institutions is Berlin.
