About Jan Christian Vestre

Vestre was appointed Minister of Health and Care Services on 19 April 2024. Prior to that, he was Minister of Trade and Industry (2021 – 2024). Vestre was elected Deputy Leader of the Norwegian Labour Party in 2023. Before his appointment as a Minister in Jonas Gahr Støre's government in 2021, he was CEO of the family business Vestre AS. Between 2013 and 2017, he was Chairman of the board for the reconstruction of Utøya after the terrorist attacks on 22 July 2011. Vestre worked Political Advisor to the Ministry of Trade and Industry in 2013 and a Political Advisor to the Labour Party's representatives in the Church, Education and Research Committee in the Norwegian Parliament, Storting from 2010 to 2012. Vestre was also a board member of the youth organisation of the Norwegian Labour Party, the Workers’ Youth League (AUF) from 2010 to 2012, a political advisor to AUF from 2007 to 2009, and a leader of the Norwegian Student Organisation (Elevorganisasjonen) from 2006 to 2007. He participated in the government-appointed committee that in 2008 delivered the White Paper called NOU 2008:18 Vocational Education for the Future. He was born in 1986 and has a law degree from the University of Oslo.
