The InterAcademy Medical Panel (IAMP), jointly with the InterAcademy Council (IAC) and the Interacademy Panel (IAP), reorganized into an umbrella organization in early 2016: The InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) — a global network of academies of science and medicine.

As an umbrella organization, the IAP can harness the expertise of the world’s scientific, medical and engineering leaders to advance sound policies, promote excellence in science education, and improve public and global health.

IAP’s some 130 national members and regional networks compile an extensive track record of delivering evidence-based advice and performing other services for national governments, international organizations and the global community. It enables the IAP to enlarge the scale and scope of these contributions. Through its global network, the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) is able to harness the power and authority of these academies and access their combined scientific talent.

The IAP secretariat is hosted by The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) – for the advancement of science in developing countries, in Trieste, Italy.

Mission

To mobilize experience and expertise of individuals within academies in order to

• facilitate the provision of evidence-based advice to governments and international organizations on critical global health issues
• assist in the creation of academies where none exist and build the capacity of existing academies to provide this evidence-based advice
• promote cooperation among academies of the world by exchanging information and sharing expertise
• support projects of member academies to improve health and strengthen health-related research and higher education in their countries
• issue consensus statements on matters of importance to global health
• convene workshops and conferences to share experiences and discuss emerging issues in global health
