The M8 Alliance
Profile
The “M8 Alliance of Academic Health Centers and Medical Universities” is established as a medical and scientific forum of excellence. It is composed as a network of prestigious medical institutions to deal with scientific, political, and economic issues related to medicine and public health together with stakeholders from politics and industry at the national, European, and international levels. This international network gives the World Health Summit an outstanding academic background. With these institutions, it is possible to establish a reference platform for medical development on a global scale. The Alliance acts as a permanent platform for framing the future considerations of global medical development and health challenges.

Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany
The Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is one the largest academic health centers in Europe. Following German Reunification, it is now the joint medical school of the Free University and the Humboldt University of Berlin. It was founded in 1710. Many famous physicians and scientists such as Rudolf Virchow, Robert Koch, Emil von Behring, and Paul Ehrlich worked at the Charité. It has four locations: Campus Benjamin Franklin, Campus Berlin Buch, Charité Campus Mitte and Campus Virchow Klinikum.

Monash University of Melbourne, Australia
The Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences is the University's largest research faculty, and includes the Monash Institute of Medical Research (MIMR) and the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI) which in turn houses the European Molecular Biology Laboratory - Australia (EMBL-A). In 2010 the Faculty is offering over 86 postgraduate programs. Imperial College London (officially The Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine as titled in its Royal Charter) is a British university in London specializing in science, engineering, medicine and business. Whilst the College was founded in 1907, the Faculty of Medicine itself was established in 1997, further to a merger of all the major West London medical schools into one institution. The Faculty is now one of Europe's largest medical institutions - in terms of its staff and student population and its research income.

Peking Union Medical College and Hospital, China
Peking Union Medical College (北京协和医学院) is among the most renowned medical colleges in the People's Republic of China. It was initially founded in 1917 with the support from the Rockefeller Foundation. Its unique eight-year-long M.D. program has provided generations of leaders for academic modern medicine and related areas in China. Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (中国医学科学院) is a leading academic center for medical sciences in China. PUMC and CAMS have an integrated administrative system since the latter’s establishment in 1956. Now, PUMC-CAMS has 18 research institutes and 6 hospitals.

Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan
Kyoto University Hospital Kyoto University was founded in 1897 as Japan’s second Imperial University. Two years later (1899), Medical School was founded along with the affiliated hospital. Since then, Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine/Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital have been one of the leading institutions in the field of medical science and clinical medicine.

Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Moscow, Russia
The USSR Academy of Medical Sciences was established on June 30, 1944. On January 4, 1992, the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences was transformed into the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (RAMS) and got the status of an independent state organization. The Russian Academy of Medical Sciences comprises outstanding scientists and specialists in the field of health and medicine. The membership of the Academy amounts to 380 full and corresponding members and more than 100 foreign members. The Russian Academy of Medical Sciences implements scientific management of medical sciences in the country, identifies general directions and makes prognosis for the development of medical science, coordinates activities of medical institutions, as well as controls the implementation and quality of research at the RAMS institutions. Among priority medical research are now maternal and child health care, cardio-vascular diseases prevention and control, prevention and control of oncological, neuro-psychical, endocrinological, infectious and other socially significant diseases, nanotechnologies. International cooperation of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences varies both in form and in content and envelops practically all aspects of medical science. The Russian Academy of Medical Sciences maintains scientific contacts with over 30 countries of the world.
